What Is Insomnia?
In modern society, sleep has become an elusive luxury for many. Insomnia, a prevalent sleep disorder, affects millions of people worldwide, disrupting their lives and well-being. People experience insomnia in many different forms. Some have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep while others may experience non-restorative light sleep.
Sleep is currently classified into four stages. The first three are non-rapid eye movement stages: stage N1, N2, and N3 sleep. Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep occurs in the fourth stage. Stage N1 sleep is the lightest. In stage N2 sleep, brain waves slow, body temperature begins to drop, and heart rate slows as sleep deepens. Sleep further deepens in stage N3 sleep, characterized by very slow brain waves referred to as delta or slow wave sleep. Stage REM sleep is “paradoxical sleep” because brain activity is similar to that in the awake state with increased sympathetic tone characterized by rise in blood pressure and heart rate but with muscle atonia. Dreaming occurs in this stage of sleep.
In the case of insomnia, sleep quality and time spent in each sleep stage may become altered.
It can be caused due to the decline in sleep hormone and changes in circadian rhythm due to aging. Hormonal changes during pregnancy, perimenopause and menopause can also trigger insomnia. Our mental health issues, such as the presence of stress, anxiety or depression, can ruin our sleep. A traumatic event such as sudden death of a loved one can trigger insomnia. Insomnia can be a symptom of an underlying disease such as ADHD. Sometimes insomnia is caused by certain medications. Respiratory issues such as asthma and cough can also keep us awake. Unhealthy lifestyle, e.g. too much screen time, overworking and a sedentary lifestyle can also lead to insomnia.
Symptoms of Insomnia
Insomnia is like having to wage a war every night. We struggle to initiate sleep, tossing and turning for hours before falling asleep. Once this starts happening on a regular basis, we even dread to go to bed and the whole day feel anxious about our nightly battles.
Some of us have no trouble falling asleep but then we wake up multiple times during the night and have trouble going back to sleep again. Even the need to use the toilet at night can wake us up and then keep us awake. If we are lucky to sleep through the night, We may still feel that we have barely slept. We did not get much of a deep, restful stage N3 sleep.
We often feel tired and fatigued during the day, unable to concentrate and be productive. We feel moody and irritable. If insomnia lingers on, we become susceptible to poor immune function, hypertension, heart disease, diabetes and even psychological disorders.
According to the Pranic Healing system, every living entity has not one but two bodies - 1. visible physical body and 2. invisible body made of light.
The traditional medical system deals with the visible body. The Pranic healing system, just like acupuncture, tai chi and chi gong; deals with the invisible body or the energy body. In simplistic terms, this energy body consists of auras, chakras (energy centers) and meridians (energy pathways). This light or energy is called prana, chi, ki or ruah in different languages.
When our energy body and energy centers or chakras are filled with good energy and are balanced, we are healthy. But the presence of disease energy in the auras and chakras creates imbalances leading to both physical and psychological health issues.
Pranic Healing, a “no-touch” energy healing system, restores the health by manipulating and harmonizing pranic energy in auras and chakras to accelerate the body's own natural ability to heal itself to restore health and vitality. It has also been described as ‘acupuncture without needles’.
Pranic Healing has been found effective in healing stress, anxiety, depression (1), enhancing cognitive functioning (2), insomnia (3) and more. If you are new to Pranic Healing, please read ‘What is Pranic Healing’.
For many people suffering from insomnia, they feel that their mind is racing and they can’t seem to be able to stop it. Most of these people carry tremendous work and personal life related stress. From a Pranic Healing perspective, stress, anxiety and depression, is a form of disease energy that lives in the habitat of the energy body. As different chakras manage different physiological and psychological functions, diseased energy in these chakras have consequences. For example, stress energy in the Solar Plexus chakra can lead to both stress and insomnia. Or the hormone imbalance due to other factors such as menopause can unbalance the major chakras.
Why do we need Pranic Healing as a natural option to overcome insomnia?
For mild insomnia issues, the general tendency is to try natural and easily accessible options such as chamomile tea, essential oils and even OTC medicines including melatonin first. There is now more awareness around sleep hygiene, adopting healthy sleep habits, to improve sleep quality. These include maintaining a consistent sleep schedule, creating a comfortable sleep environment, and avoiding caffeine and electronic devices before bedtime.
For long-term insomnia, sleep inducing medicines are prescribed. But the prescription medicines are non-curative and generally a short-term solution, as they can lead to dependence, withdrawal symptoms, amnesia and thoughts about suicide. Moreover, pregnant women can not be prescribed sedative-hypnotic agent medicines.
For long-term insomnia, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for insomnia (CBTi) is considered a good solution. But there is a shortage of trained professionals to offer the therapy.
Most people do not have access to CBT for insomnia. They are usually offered prescription medicines which do not cure insomnia and have side effects. Insomnia disorder also has a high comorbidity rate with chronic medical conditions (ranges from 20% to 80%). With psychiatric conditions, the estimated prevalence rates are between 26% and 32% (4). In the case of medical or psychiatric comorbidity, effectiveness of CBTi tapers down. Only 36.0% of comorbid patients who received CBT-I were found to be in remission from insomnia (5).
It is clear that more non pharmacological approaches are needed to heal insomnia. Customized and comprehensive solutions are needed for someone suffering from insomnia along with issues such as chronic pain, cancer, menopause, stress or depression.
Since our chakras or energy centers manage both physiological and psychological well-being, in addition to the standard care, it is fitting to use an energy-based approach, such as Pranic Healing, for a more personalized approach to insomnia and ‘whole person’ healing.
Also, the person dealing with insomnia needs to be taught self care techniques to use on a daily basis to minimize chances of relapse. Pranic Healing techniques can be learned and practiced by anyone on their own to strengthen their chakras in order to safeguard against any potential intruders in the future.
Pranic Healing is used in combination with standard medical care for optimal benefit.
How does Pranic Healing provide natural insomnia relief?
Pranic healing technology offers a comprehensive complementary solution for insomnia. The healing strategy can be divided into three distinct components.
Pranic Emotional Healing: Advanced Pranic Healing techniques are utilized to flush out energies of psychological issues such as stress, depression and PTSD from all major chakras and auras. An energy boost is given to all major chakras. As the chakras are healed, the mind becomes calm yet energized.
In a double blind study, 69.2% of depression patients’ condition improved with antidepressant medication and mock Pranic Healing while 100% of the depression patients’ condition improved with antidepressant medication and Pranic Healing for 4 weeks (1).
Advanced Pranic Healing for physiological symptoms: Advanced Pranic healing protocols are used for comorbid issues such as severe pain, respiratory issues and imbalance of hormones in addition to healing insomnia.
In a study, a 27-year-old female suffered from insomnia, irritability, low energy, daytime sleepiness and depressed mood for six months. The subject did not have any physical or psychological comorbidity and was not taking any medications. Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS) score was 16. After 6 Pranic Healing sessions, the AIS score dropped to 2 indicating normal sleep pattern.
At the end of the healing process, the subject experienced a sense of calmness, well-being and being energetic (3).
A study done on the wellbeing of incarcerated individuals showed remarkable improvement in physical and emotional well-being and insomnia after receiving Pranic Healing for just one week (6).
Meditation: Pranic Healing system teaches special guided meditations designed to heal chakras.
A pilot study done on one of the meditations shows a 300% increase in serotonin and melatonin, making it perfect for stress relief and sleep regulation.
In a 2021 study, 96.9% of the participants reported doing Pranic Healing meditation was very useful for them to control their mental health status (7)
Another study showed 83.5% participants felt happy and enthusiastic after one month of meditation practice.
Also, research has shown both immediate and long-term improvement in cognitive functioning by doing the Pranic Healing meditation (2).

How to receive Pranic Healing help to heal insomnia?
Pranic Healing help can be availed in several formats. Here, we are describing a staged strategy that we recommend at Joy of Pranic Healing.
Stage 1 - Seek professional help
For both chronic and comorbid insomnia healing, we recommend seeking professional help from a certified Pranic Healer. An experienced Pranic Healing practitioner would design a highly targeted healing protocol tailored to the disease and the symptom profile of the person that needs healing. Healings are performed using this healing protocol over a period of time till the person starts to feel better or is considered healed by a medical doctor.
Stage 2 - Receive guided self-care
As part of the healing process, the Pranic Healing practitioner also develops a custom plan to do potent meditation and breathing exercises specially designed to flush out insomnia energies from auras and chakras that the healing recipient can do on her own on a daily basis to promote overall well-being.
By combining personalized healing with guided self care, most people are able to feel better at a faster rate.
Stage 3 - I can heal myself
For mild insomnia cases and in the case of chronic cases once the person’s symptoms are in remission, our advice is for the individual to learn Pranic Healing. Pranic Healing is easy to learn and practice. It takes only 16 hours to learn the basics in Level 1 Pranic Healing training. That would give you simple yet powerful tools to do regular self-healing with just waving and flicking your hands!
These training sessions provide a toolset of easy-to-practice yet powerful energetic tools to do regular self-healing. Anytime the symptoms of insomnia start to creep in, the person can heal their chakras by using their palms for a fast relief. Learning Pranic Healing is the best gift you can give to yourself.
Practicing the self-care techniques combined with self-healing regularly makes the energy body strong, building an immunity against future bouts of insomnia.
Insomnia during and post pregnancy (prenatal and postnatal)
Pregnancy is a very special time. With all the excitement and anticipation comes mind and body changes most women may not be prepared to encounter. It is not uncommon to experience a host of issues - back ache, restless leg syndrome, cramps, hypertension, gestational diabetes, anxiety, depression and sleeplessness.
Research indicates that insomnia issues during pregnancy can increase risk of preterm birth and gestational diabetes and postnatal/postpartum depression. There is enough evidence suggesting that a pregnant woman's mental health issues such as stress, anxiety and depression can have an adverse impact on mother's biology in a way that in turn alters the development of the brain of her fetus, and may indicate vulnerability to later depression and other problems for the child (8).
It is important to take good care of not just our body but also our mind during pregnancy. Lack of sleep can exacerbate a mental health issue an expectant mom may already have.
After delivery, the demands of breastfeeding, caring for a newborn and sudden hormonal changes creates a different type of sleep deprivation that can lead to highly irritable, moody and sometimes depressive behavior.
Pranic Healing’s no-drug and no-touch approach is particularly valuable during these sweet yet trying times as it is safe for both mom and baby.
Insomnia during perimenopause and menopause
Before menopause sets in at around 50 years, there is perimenopause, period of irregular menstrual cycles, heavy bleeding, hot flashes, joint pain, mood swings, brain fog and even insomnia. The perimenopause period looks different for every woman and can last a few months to up to 7 years long. Traditional treatment to ease the symptoms is using antidepressants and hormone replacement therapy.
Pranic Healing offers a gentle yet potent ‘whole person’ approach to healing insomnia and other mental and physical symptoms. With sophisticated knowledge of prana, chakras and auras, Pranic Healing deals with the root cause of energy imbalance with precision to provide not just insomnia relief but also brain fog, pain, depression, anxiety and much more.
Benefits of using Pranic Healing as a natural healing solution for insomnia
As a complementary medicine, receiving Pranic Healing care has many benefits.
Safe: Pranic Healing is a no-touch energy healing modality. Pranic Healing does not interfere with regular treatment whether it is therapy or pharmaceutical approach. It also does not require the recipient to take any herbs or supplements. This is especially important for pregnant and breastfeeding moms who may wish to avoid taking any herb or medicine and looking for a natural solution for relief from insomnia.
Handles comorbidity: Pranic Healing solution incorporates therapy for both mental and medical diseases such as pain, hormone imbalance, prostate issues, incontinence, arthritis, stress, depression, PTSD and more.
Convenient: Pranic Healing does not require any dietary or other significant lifestyle changes.
Comfortable: The person can receive healing sessions from the comfort of their home. Tele-Pranic healing virtual sessions work as effectively as in-person.
